My New Hobby

When I took up running, I had no idea there were so many factors involved in "a good run", the weather being the main one. Whoever named Chicago the Windy City hadn't been to Oklahoma, 'where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain', yet. Twenty to forty mile per hour winds can certainly affect "a good run". I also recommend that you don't eat a lasagna dinner before setting out for jog. You might feel that one in the back of your throat the whole way. I try to drink as much water as I can put down on the days I'm going to run. One tip: stop at least one hour prior or you will either a) have to make a pit stop, or b) feel really full. I do enjoy it, running that is. It is so rewarding to know that I have pushed myself to the limit and beyond. I feel better, I'm starting to look better, and I feel a sense of accomplishment. It is incredible.

Cancer Crushing

Running is addicting. When I push myself, and the weather conditions cooperate (more later), I can run a mile straight. Woot! Woot! Even though it is hard work, I've really been enjoying it. Stephanie and I are training for a 5k called The Downtown Dash which is this Saturday in OKC. Yikes! I'm a little nervous. I will be walking some of it, but my goal is to finish in 35 minutes or less. I know I can do it. I also recently decided to get involved with the American Cancer Society. Naturally, with my increased interest in running, Relay For Life seemed the appropriate place to start. If you are interested in walking with me on June 19 at 7:30 p.m., let me know. You can join my team by clicking the link below. I want to thank all my friends and family who have supported this important cause. Each one of your efforts makes a difference. I'm a runner!

Who would have ever thought I would be a runner. I started the Couch Potato Plan with Stephanie and it has been so much fun. I used to look at running as work and now I crave it. You basically work your way up from running and walking in 30-90 second intervals to running miles after only a few short weeks. It rocks! I have already run like four miles this week. Woot! Woot! I will attempt my first 5k on June 13. Yikes, I'm nervous!!

Where in the World Is Shelly Frantz

Okay, so I know what you’re thinking “This girl is the worst blogger EVER!” Well, I may have missed a few entries, but I’ve been darn busy. Let me show you what’s held me up since February.
This is where I work, and from February to May every year, it is where I eat, sleep, and breathe my 10-12 hour work days. When people ask what I do, it’s hard for me to sum it up with just a job title. Executive Assistant doesn’t really tell you much. I’m not a glorified secretary. I don’t really assist anyone specifically and I have plenty of responsibilities all my own. I can’t claim to be the “bookkeeper” because that’s not the only thing I do. Most of the time, I feel like a jack-of-all-trades; but then again, welcome to association management. So here’s the rundown: besides bookkeeping, I am the staff liaison for the committees that oversee governance (that just means the people who set policy and make sure the others follow it) and the budget, the building and grounds committee, the Board of Trustees and House of Delegates, and I have some pretty big responsibilities at our annual meeting each the spring; I am in charge of logistics for the awards ceremony and the banquet. It’s pretty cool because big dawgs like Jari Askins and Mary Fallin come to these events every year. This year’s banquet was a casual sports theme which was more fun to organize than some of the others which are formal galas.
“A Stage Divided”
That’s me on stage, sporting my Edmond Bulldogs gear, helping the president during rehearsal.
Oh, and…I’m assistant to the Executive Director (whatever that means). I guess Executive Assistant is the title they give you when you don’t really fall into one category. And that, my friends, is what I do.
